   Augusta Country Club Tennis

Philosophy

The Augusta Country Club tennis program is designed to offer members and their families the opportunity to enjoy the game of tennis regardless of the level of the player.  Tennis is a lifetime sport that allows players of all ages to challenge themselves according to their ability, always learning and improving their skills, so that they can benefit fully from all that the sport has to offer.  Though competition is encouraged and sought, the physical exercise and social experience that accompanies tennis drives the activities offered at the Augusta Country Club.  It is most important that its members participate in tennis—whether learning the game, developing new skills, breaking old habits, or competing in tournament play—and enjoy the experience; making memories along the way.

Program Offerings

Pee Wee Tennis: Beginner sessions for 5-7 year-olds.  The goal is exposure to the game of tennis.  Formal instruction will occupy 15 minutes of the 45-minute session, while the remaining time is for games and structured activity.  The intent is to encourage an interest in the game and to give parents time to socialize.  These are offered at 9:30 a.m. on Mondays  Parents are asked to sign up with the pro. Junior Tennis:  Beginner sessions for 7-11 year-olds.  Instruction will focus on stroke basics of forehand and backhand groundstrokes and volleys, as well as an introduction to the rules of the game.  Focus will be placed on interest and enjoyment of the game.  These are offered at 9:00 am on Thursdays.  Parents are asked to sign up with the pro. Juniors:  Group lessons for 11-14 year-olds.  Focus of instruction will depend on the levels of each individual player.  Students will receive instruction on stroke mechanics, rules of the game, strategy, and court positioning.  Each student will receive one-on-one and group instruction.  Thursday lesson is offered at 10:00 am.  A Junior Mixer is offered on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm. Parents are asked to sign their child up with the pro.  Adult Group:  Group lessons for 14 year-olds to adults.  Players of all abilities are welcomed and will be grouped accordingly, receiving instruction geared to ability level.  Much of the focus will be on individual stroke development with respect to doubles tactics and strategy, as well as positioning and match play.  Each session will begin with a ten-minute warm-up, focus on skill development through a series of drills, then end with application to match play.  These are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00-9:30 a.m. Men’s and Women’s Scrambles and Mixed Scrambles:            These are opportunities for adult members to compete against each other in a rotating doubles format.  All members of varying levels are welcome to participate.  The focus is consistent with the club philosophy of competition, participation, and social experience.  Show up for a good game of tennis and a good time.  Mixed scrambles on Wednesday are designed for both couples and singles.
